WORLD OCEANS DAY CELEBRATIONS 7TH-14TH OF JUNE.

ONE OCEAN, ONE CLIMATE, ONE FUTURE.

The National Sea Life Centre will be celebrating World Oceans Day (8th of June 2009) with a week full of fun events!

The ocean and climate are inextricably linked - the ocean plays a crucial role in maintaining the Earth's climate, and ocean life is vulnerable to warmer, more acidic, and rising waters as a result of climate change.

Seas the Day! What kind of ocean do you want to leave for your grandchildren?  By modifying simple things we do every day, we can positively impact the future of our world oceans.  Visitors will be encouraged to make the "Seven C's" pledge.  Bookmarkers will be distributed to pledges.

Join us for a fun filled week of activities that include:

Screenings of Sharkwater
Screenings of Sharkwater
we are proud to be holding the first public screening in Ireland of the documentary that has been changing the public's opinion of sharks since its launch. A winner of 31 International Film Awards, this is a must see movie for anyone passionate about our oceans (places are limited so early booking is advised) Screenings will be held at 6pm from the
7th-14th of June.

Fundays Sundays!
On the 7th and 14th of June we will be running science workshops for children from 8-12 years old.  Children will learn about how pollution and climate change affect our Oceans through fun hands on experiments in our education room. (Places are limited so early booking is advised) Workshops will be held at 11am and 4pm on the 7th and 14th of June.

"I love the ocean because..." poster design competition
Design a poster based on the theme "why I love the ocean" to enter our competition. There will be lots of prizes up for grabs for the various age groups which include annual passes and ocean themed toys. Our competition will run from the 7th-14th of June. Our winners will be announced on the 15th of June.

Conservation talks
Our expert marine biologists have developed an educational talk specifically for World Oceans Day which both educates and inspires. The talk covers climate change and the vulnerability of our Coral Reefs and also explores the plight of the many creatures in our oceans which face extinction. Talks will be held at 12.30pm and 3.30pm from the 7th -14th of June

Inis "The energy of the sea"
Fragrances of Ireland, the creators of the award winning Inis perfume range have kindly donated a fabulous hamper of Inis products which will be raffled on the 14th of June. Tickets will be on sale from the 7th - 14th of June and all proceeds will be donated to World Oceans Day. No need to worry if you don't win! They have also donated vials of perfume which will be handed out to visitors on the 7th of June.
